About UD

Who is the Unemployed Dad?

Really I’m just a regular guy who, like so many others, is trying to make sense of America’s economic suffering.  I’m unemployed myself but I was lucky enough to make that choice myself.  I quit my full-time job in 2010 to focus on my true passion, which is running my small portfolio of websites.  I make money through advertising and internet marketing.  Thankfully these industries have persevered through the recession. It is a business filled with highs and lows that would not suit those who want a regular paycheck. However, at the end of the day I am building a business…something that can be sold down the road if needed. And of course I’m the boss, so there is no concern about getting laid off.

So what is this blog going about?

I found this domain name at a domain auction and it really clicked with me since I had just quit my job. My first intention was to create an internet marketing blog where I could share my experiences with anyone looking for a better way to make money outside of the 9 to 5 grind. After making a handful of posts though I came to the realization that what I do really is not that exciting for others to read. So I just left the blog behind until I could think of a better topic for it.

In September of 2011 I finally stumbled onto the next chapter of UnemployedDad.com  It felt like everyday I woke up to more news of lay offs, job cuts, and foreclosures.  My neighbors and I would debate ideas on how the government could promote more job growth in our country.  We would discuss our thoughts on how America got into this mess, and what we would do to turn things around.  After having several of these conversations it finally clicked in my brain that these were great topics for a blog.  Lucky for me I already had the perfect domain name :)

UnemployedDad.com represents my opinions on the economic (*cough*) growth of America.  I believe there is still a bright future for our country, but we need to make some major changes to realize our potential.  I am not an economist, professor, or accountant, so of course there will be glaring holes in my ideas…but does that really matter?  I’m tired of hearing the failure stories.  It annoys me that everyone is so quick to recite the reasons our job market is shrinking yet no one has a suggestion for the fix.  My pledge is to spend my time trying to offer potential solutions instead of just complaining.

So that is the story of me and this blog.  I hope I can change the negative outlook so many people for our future. There is always a market ready to buy in any situation…it is time for us to use our vast resources to create more demand for American products.

Thanks for Visiting!
