One of the Clickbank products I promote is “Text the Romance Back” by Michael Fiore. Michael recently held a week-long contest to see who could generate the most sales. The prizes were hot – like $1000 and personal consulting for 1st place!

No, I didn’t win anything but I did get a peek at what all the famous Clickbank product owners are doing with their buyer lists. See below for the top 15 standings of Michael’s contest as of Friday. If you’ve been in the CB game for a few years then you’ll recognize many of these names…
1. Blair Gorman – numerologist.com
2. Mark Ling – meetyoursweet.com
3. Michael Webb – relationshipcollection.com
4. Mimi Tanner – mimitanner.com
5. Katie Wang – ???
6. Kate Dixon and Dean Mason – fixyoursexlessmarriage.com
7. SandW – ???
8. Bob Grant – womanmenadore.net
9. Otto and Susie Collins – wakeupdesire.com
10. Manny Goldman – ???
11. J from Man Mastery – ???
12. Eric Edgemont – puatraining.com
13. Travis Sago – magicofmakingup.com
14. Ejacguru – ???
15. Michael Griswold – reunitedrelationships.com
As you see, product owners make up 10 of the top 15 earners in this contest. That should show you how much of a disadvantage we have as affiliates when it comes to dialing up sales whenever we want. Not only do these guys get our traffic and sales, but they they also build a list of real buyers in the process.
For the record, I’m not posting this to out anybody. If I were lucky enough to have a profitable product driven by affiliate sales then you better believe I would be doing the same thing. I’ve read more than a few articles on product creation and back-end promotions. It all makes sense to me, but my first few attempts at it have been miserable failures.
One thing that I find interesting about the leader board is that several of the vendors are in the same niche as the product they are promoting. How do you email someone who bought your relationship ebook and say “here’s an even better one”. I guess these are the intricacies that keep me from being a superstar marketer!

Hey Geoff, good post.
Many of the other vendors are collecting leads, so they’re not just promoting other books to customers, but to their entire leads list.
I think the list does demonstrate that as an affiliate you need to create your own marketing channel, whether it be a website, an email list, your own product, or a combination of them all.
I don’t necessarily think it gives an affiliate a disadvantage, it all depends on how successful your marketing channel is for you.
Good post!
That’s a good point Miles. I think the average affiliate marketer (like me) gets stuck in the same circle of promotion, but this post shows how the big players are using all their assets to make money. One my goals for 2012 is to diversify traffic sources so I can take advantage of opportunities like these guys do.
I’m really loving the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility problems? A handful of my blog readers have complained about my website not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any solutions to help fix this issue?
Fantastic stuff! Often questioned whats far better when it comes to profitability in the dating niche.
